Burglary with violence, Durack

Police are investigating a burglary and assault at a home in Durack early this morning.

Just after 3.30am, two men – one armed with a baseball bat – entered the house on Gage Street and threatened two occupants of the home.

During the incident, a 31-year-old man was struck in the head with a baseball bat, and a 21-year-old women was assaulted before managing to break free from another man’s hold and defended herself from further harm by using a mop to strike him.

The two men searched the house before leaving through the back door empty-handed.

A 48-year-old woman and a two-year-old child were also present in the home, but were not physically harmed during the incident.

The 31-year-old man was transported to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital with head injuries.

The 21-year-old woman sustained a slight neck injury but was not treated by paramedics.

The armed man is believed to have been wearing a black long sleeved shirt or jumper with either a hood or balaclava.

Investigations are continuing.
