Planet Lighting is one of Bellingen’s oldest and largest employers. It also is one of the country’s major suppliers of Medical and Surgical lights, LED and custom lights.
After a recent visit to the hospital’s Emergency Department, the head of the company’s Medical Division, Adam Kornhauser decided the unit’s procedure lights could be improved.
“We’re a local, family-owned business,” Mr Kornhauser said.
“We live and work in Bellingen, and everyone appreciates the great work being carried out at our hospital.
“Having been a visitor to ED, I felt strongly that the least we could do for our local hospital was to provide some lights, free of charge.”
The business installed two LED procedure lights in ED, and a third is to be installed near a recliner chair in the unit in the not-too-distant future.
The value of the donation is about $3900.
ED Nurse Unit Manager Liz Blake said the adjustable lights had been well received by staff and patients.
“They are fantastic,” Ms Blake said.
“We can concentrate the light exactly where we need it to be.
“It’s better for staff and, because we can move the light away from patients’ faces, it’s much more comfortable for them.
“We really can’t believe the difference the new LED lights have made.”
Mr Kornhauser said Bellingen was a community that took ownership of its hospital and he was pleased Planet Lighting was able to do something special for the staff and for patients.
