Thousands of “strollers” from various neighborhoods — including Bensonhurst, Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO and Williamsburg — descended upon Third Avenue in Bay Ridge on Fridays, July 18 and 25, for what has become the city’s most popular “Summer Stroll” event. This version is run under the auspices of the Merchants of Third Avenue, led by attorney Robert Howe.

“Third Avenue’s become known as Brooklyn’s ‘Restaurant Row,’” Howe said, referring to the kudos heaped upon the popular thoroughfare by former Borough President Marty Markowitz. “We have reached out to neighborhoods and parents, their kids and just about everyone else to get out the message that this ‘Summer Stroll’ is a unique opportunity to enjoy an evening on our veritable Venetian piazza.”

The “Stroll” resumes on Third Avenue on Friday nights, Aug. 8 and 15. Make sure to keep checking Facebook.com/SummerStrollon3rd for the latest updates.

Brooklyn Bar President Rebecca Woodland’s Opening Call: Play Ball!

As new Brooklyn Bar Association President Rebecca Woodland knows only too well, the organization she heads is one of the most active and productive in the state and has a reputation for finding new and interesting ways to keep its members on their toes.

So, following a tradition adhered to by her illustrious predecessor, Andrew Fallek, President Woodland’s initial agenda has been a very well-attended CLE session at a New York Yankees game, to be followed up by a similar outing on Sept. 17 to see the New York Mets perform at Citi Field.

This will be a full and valuable evening, promised outgoing CLE Director Meredith Symonds. The program starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Citi Field Auditorium, with a half-hour of “networking,” then it’s onto the beautiful Queens ballfield to root for the Mets, who are not having an “amazin’” year.

The baseball ventures are sponsored by the BBA’s Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Committee, chaired by Sanaa Z. Harris; the BBA Lawyer Referral Service, headed by Roseann Hiebert; and Westlaw.

Aiding President Woodland this year are President-elect Arthur Aidala, First Vice President Hon. Frank Seddio, Second Vice President Aimee Richter and Secretary Dave Chidekel, aided immeasurably by BBA Executive Director Avery Eli Okin.
