It was a birthday gift -- one day delayed -- to herself. Jessica Putland made her last effort as a Hamline trackster one to remember, throwing the Shot Put a personal best 45-0.25 to finish in ninth place at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Canton, NY. The Wisconsin native, who turned 22 Friday and qualified for the meet with a 44-11.5 effort in April, was less than half a foot away from finishing in eighth place, which would have earned the Pipers a point. 

She entered the event ranked 14th among all throwers. 

Carolyn Saulsberry, a junior from Minneapolis, finished 22nd in the Triple Jump with a 33-6.25 showing. She fouled on her other two attempts.
