BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The University of Texas-Pan American Broncs volleyball team fell to the Bakersfield Roadrunners 3-0 (16-25, 20-25, 21-25) on Saturday at Icardo Center.
 
Junior Haley Durham led the Broncs (5-18, 2-7 WAC) with nine kills and four blocks. Freshman Mary Kate Clark dished out 24 assists. Senior Krysta Freitas finished with eight digs.
 
Danika Youngblood led the Roadrunners (10-12, 6-3 WAC) with 15 kills, 10 digs and four blocks. Luiza Martins dished out a match-high 32 assists. Mariah Alvidrez posted a match-high 16 digs.
 
The first set was tight early, as senior Diara Renyolds tied it at 3-3 on a kill. The Broncs were within 5-6 on a kill by sophomore Anjané Janda before the Roadrunners scored seven-straight points, three of which came on Eryn Riley aces, to go up 13-5 en route to taking a 1-0 match lead.
 
The Broncs and Roadrunners were tied at 1-1 in the second set on a kill by freshman Kyra Hill, but the Roadrunners pushed their lead to 10-5 on a Molly O'Hagan kill. The Broncs pulled within 7-11 on a Reynolds kill, but the Roadrunners responded with an 11-5 run to build a 22-12 lead. The Broncs followed with an 8-2 run to pull within four before Sydney Haynes ended the set with a kill to make it 2-0.
 
The third set was tight throughout, featuring two lead changes and nine ties. The set was tied at 2-2 on a Hill kill, 3-3 on a Haynes attack error, 4-4 on a Reynolds kill, 5-5 on a block by Reynolds and Durham, 6-6 on a Riley service error, and 8-8 on a Youngblood attack error. The Broncs took their first lead at 9-8 on another Youngblood attack error. One serve later, the Broncs again took the lead on a Hill kill. Youngblood tied it with a kill, but followed with a service error to let the Broncs take the lead back. The Broncs pushed their lead to three at 14-11 on an ace by Hill. The Roadrunners, however, responded with a 7-1 run to take the lead back for good.
 
The Broncs return home for three of their next four matches, starting Thursday at 7 p.m. against Utah Valley.
