Loras' Wilson, Buena Vista's Barrett Named IIAC Athletes of the Week

Performers of the Week Announced in Six Sports

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --- The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Loras College soccer player Hannah Wilson (Waunakee, Wis. / Waunakee) and Buena Vista University football player Dylan Barrett (Harlan, Iowa / Harlan) have been named IIAC Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sunday, October 19, 2014. The Conference also announced Performers of the Week in six fall sports.

Women's Soccer (defense) — Hannah Wilson, Loras College, Waunakee, Wis. / Waunakee
Wilson, a senior goalkeeper, made eight saves in a 1-0 win over Luther. It was only the second time in 15 games the Norse had been shutout this season. For Wilson, it was her third clean sheet of the season. (IIAC Female Athlete of the Week)

Football (offense) — Dylan Barrett, Buena Vista University, Harlan, Iowa / Harlan
Barrett, a senior running back, set career highs with 42 carries and 264 yards in Buena Vista's 48-41 win over Luther. He had touchdowns runs of 7 and 1 yards. Barrett's 264 yards were the fourth-most for a single game in school history while finishing just four carries shy of the BVU school record. Both marks were also single-game highs in the Iowa Conference this season. Barrett helped BVU win its fourth straight game this season and its seventh straight IIAC contest dating back to last season. (IIAC Male Athlete of the Week)

Football (defense) — Jacob Edleman, Central College, Mechanicsville, Iowa / North Cedar
Edleman, a senior free safety, had five tackles (three solo) and a career-high three interceptions in Central's 41-14 win over Loras. He now has 13 in his Central career. The Dutch have created 15 turnovers this season.
Special mention — Beau Van Wechel, jr., DE, Buena Vista

Football (special teams) — Tyler Stolen, Buena Vista University, Sioux City, Iowa / Bishop Heelan
Stolen, a sophomore punter/place kicker, scored 12 points for the second consecutive week. He made six PATs in addition to back-to-back field goals just over a minute apart in the fourth quarter to extend the Buena Vista leads back to 14 with 2:26 to play. Stolen also punted twice, averaging 45.5 yards per attempt. His longest effort of 55 yards came to rest at the Norse 9-yard line. It was Stolen's third punt of 50-plus yards this season.

Women's Soccer (offense) — Megan Siepler, University of Dubuque, La Canada, Calif. / La Canada
Siepler, a senior forward, recorded a goal and an assist as the Spartans won a pair of games last week to lock up an IIAC Tournament berth. She scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 non-conference win over Wisconsin-Platteville. Siepler assisted on the overtime game-winner in Dubuque's 1-0 win over Wartburg.

Men's Soccer (offense) — Aleksander Glavas, Central College, Loves Park, Ill. / Guilford
Glavas, a senior forward, scored both goals in Central's 2-0 win over Buena Vista. The goals came within eight minutes of each other in the second half (59:08 and 66:19). Glavas, a captain, is bouncing back after some injury issues earlier in the season.

Men's Soccer (defense) — Riley Jensen, University of Dubuque, Elgin, Ill. / Burlington Central
Jensen, a junior goalkeeper, allowed one goal and made 11 saves in 110 minutes as the Spartans tied Wartburg, 1-1.

Volleyball (defense) — Jordan Henningsen, Buena Vista University, Alta, Iowa / Alta
Henningsen, a senior libero, set a career high with 34 digs in Buena Vista's five-set win over Luther. She also added five assists in the victory, which also earned the Beavers a berth in the IIAC Tournament for the first time since 2007. It was the fourth time this season Henningsen has surpassed 30 digs in a match. She also registered a match-high 17 digs against Martin Luther.
Special mention — Alissa Wittenburg, sr., L/DS, Coe

Volleyball (offense) — Jade Schaap, Buena Vista University, Doon, Iowa / Hull Western Christian
Schaap, a freshman outside hitter, posted 30 kills and 18 digs in Buena Vista's five-set come-from-behind win over Luther that also clinched the program's first IIAC Tournament berth since 2007. The 30 kills is the second-most in school history for a five-set match. It is also the highest total by any player during conference play this season. Schaap added nine kills and 10 digs against Martin Luther to give her 413 kills this season, just three shy of the program's freshman record set last season by fellow teammate and reigning IIAC Freshman of the Year Maddie Bardole. Buena Vista has now won a school-record 10 straight matches.

Men's Cross Country — Eli Horton, Central College, Runnells, Iowa / Southeast Polk
Horton, a senior, took fourth in a loaded field of 446 runners at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Jim Drews Invitational. He completed the 8-kilometer course in 24:40, eight seconds back of the individual champion. The event featured two other nationally-ranked Division III teams and five other teams ranked in the top 10 in the Central Region. The Dutch placed fifth of 27 teams with 109 points.

Women's Cross Country — Tricia Serres, Luther College, Platteville, Wis. / Platteville
Serres, a junior, placed fifth in a large field of 453 runners at the Wisconsin-La Crosse Tori Neubauer Invitational. She completed the 6-kilometer course in 21:57.18 -- 27 seconds back of the individual champion. The Norse finished sixth of 30 teams with 246 points.
