Story
We are a group of midwives working at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton. On the 13th/14th of September we will be walking 26 miles of the south downs, to raise money for the BSUH Charity to provide enhanced facilities for women in the early stages of labour.
Every year we support around 6000 women through a very special time in their life from the very early stages of pregnancy right through labour, the birth and post natal care.
We recognise that whilst this can be a very exciting time, it can also be a time of uncertainty and anxiety. As a result, at the beginning of their labour journey, we work proactively with women to promote the normal
physiology of labour to help them anticipate what to expect throughout the coming hours or days, with the aim to reduce stress hormones and help them cope with the process.
To assist us in providing this care we’re raising money to create a private, less clinical area for women and their partners to relax with low lighting, birthing balls, mats and beanbags to increase comfort. We’d also like to purchase a water filter, tea and coffee machine to provide refreshments whilst waiting, help us make the environment as comfortable as possible.
This really will make a huge difference to women and their partners at a time when they need it most so thank you for your support of this important cause.
