The Highlanders baseball team finished their spring trip in Winter Haven, Florida today with a 15-5 win against the Lyndon State College Hornets.
The Highlanders jumped got on the board first in the first with
Michael Kerr's (Brentwood, TN)Â RBI single. Kerr scored on a wild pitch later in the inning to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead, but the Hornets scored two in the top of the third to knot it up at 2.
The lead flipped back and forth until the fourth inning when
Kevin Cassar (Mississauga, ON, Canada) came in relief for the Highlanders. Cassar threw 4.1 innings, allowed only 1 hit, no earned runs and earning his first win of the year. .
Then the Highlanders offense took over. The Highlanders blew the game open scoring eleven runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. The Highlanders were led by
Bryan Hodge (Thornton, CO) at the plate. Hodge went 2 for 4 with 3 RBI's and a walk.
The game ended in the eighth inning when the 10 run mercy rule came into effect. Â Â Â
