Cairn Loses Two Matches At Mount St. Vincent Tri-Match

Riverdale, NY – Men's volleyball traveled to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon to compete with the hosts and Emmanuel College in a tri-match. The Highlanders lost a close first match to Mount Saint Vincent, despite the 3-0 score, 28-26, 28-26, 25-20.
 
Cairn University then lost their second match to Emmanuel College 25-16, 25-17, 25-17. With the losses, the Highlanders dropped to 2-3 overall and remain 0-1 in the conference. Mount Saint Vincent picked up their first win of the season and Emmanuel College improved to 3-2 overall.
 
Andy Willits and David Dager led the Highlanders in the first match against Mount Saint Vincent with 12 kills each. Dager hit with a .600 percentage and did not have any attack errors. Micah Godshall collected nine kills in the match, while leading the team in digs with 10. Matthew Gump had 30 assists.
 
Over the first two sets, Cairn committed just three attack errors in each, while Mount Saint Vincent had seven and five. However, the Dolphins had more kills in each of the first two sets and pulled out the wins. The Highlanders then hit more kills in the third set but also committed nine attack errors to the Dolphins' three and lost the third set 25-20.
 
In the second match of the day, the Saints of Emmanuel College simply overpowered the Highlanders and hit 34 kills to the Highlanders' 19. Cairn had an attack percentage of just .034, while Emmanuel hit a consistent .313 attack percentage.
 
Micah Godshall led the Highlanders with seven kills, followed by Andy Willits with six kills. David Dager and Andy Willits led the team in digs with four each, while Matthew Gump collected 17 assists for the Highlanders.
 
Drew Jordan led the Saints with 10 kills, while Jorge Rojas collected 29 assists in the match. Julian Hess led the team in digs with six. Emmanuel not only led in total kills but also in aces, hitting 10 compared to Cairn's two.
 
The Highlanders will continue CVC matches this week as they travel to Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, Feb. 9, to take on the current No. 3 ranked Scarlet Raiders.
