Breezy And Sunny Now, Watching The Tropics This Weekend

weekend

weekend South Florida will be breezy and sunny on Thursday, but we’ll be watching the tropics for the effects of a disturbance on our weekend weather. For Thursday, sun, some clouds and maybe a stray shower on a strong breeze are in the picture. That strong breeze will keep a moderate risk of dangerous rip currents in place at the Atlantic beaches for at least another day. Thursday’s highs will be mostly in the mid 80s.

weekend Friday will feature sun, some clouds and maybe a passing shower or two on the ocean breeze, and highs in the mid to upper 80s. But our weekend forecast is all about the disturbance to the east of the Bahamas.

weekend The disturbance could develop into a tropical or subtropical depression late on Friday or over the weekend as it slowly moves to the northwest or west-northwest. While the greatest impact of this system would be well to our north, we could see periods of heavy rain from the fringe of this system on Saturday through Memorial Day, if the disturbance remains weak.

Should the disturbance develop into a tropical storm quickly (or track more to the north-northwest), our holiday weekend would feature more periods of sun, mostly afternoon storms, and highs near 90 degrees.

We’ll watch this closely for the impact on our long weekend, but it’s a reminder that we all need to keep an eye to the sky as hurricane season approaches.
