Softball Adds 12 for 2016

UTPB Softball coach Tiala Tagaloa announced Thursday the signing of 12 student athletes, six freshmen and six juniors, that will join the team for the 2016 season.

"I am very excited about the 2015 recruiting class," Tagaloa said. "This group of women are tremendous student-athletes with relentless competitive spirit. I believe they have the potential to help the team immediately and will make an impact on the field. They have an outstanding work ethic, are extremely driven and very coachable.  I know that each and every one of them is ready for the challenge and prepared to raise the bar of UTPB Softball."

Brianna Red- Freshmen – Utility Player -  El Paso, Tx.—Hanks High School

Ranked in the Top 10% academically all four years of high school. She is a Member of 300 club. Recognized for more than 300 community service hours in high school (Approx. 1000 hrs.) Was named both Algebra and Geometry Student of the year. Named All-District Academic Team her junior year.  In her high school softball career she was named 2nd Team 2nd Baseman All-District as a sophomore, 1st Team 2nd Baseman/Shortstop All-District as a junior. In  her senior season she led her high school team into post season play while having the following highlights: boasted a .531 batting Average, 1.010 Slugging percentage, .597 On Base Percentage, 1.607 OPS, 7 Homeruns including a grand slam, 14 doubles, 6 triples and 53 RBIs.

RustiAnne graduated from Van High school with Honors, also named to the All-Academic UIL Team.  During her high school softball career she was named: Freshman year 2nd team all-district infielder, Rains High School defensive MVP, Sophomore year 1st team all-district pitcher and Rains High school Defensive MVP, junior year pitcher of the year, Rains High School defensive MVP, and district champs. In her senior year at Van High school she helped lead her team to a district Championship, and Bi-District Championship. 



 



Jett Preather –Freshman- Utility Player – Paradise, TX – Paradise High School

Jett was a multisport athlete while attending Paradise High School, playing Softball, Basketball and Volleyball. She was an Academic All-District athlete all four years. During her softball career she was named: Wise County Newcomer of the year, District Newcomer of the year, Wise County DP, District Utility Player of the Year, Wise County Utility Player of the Year and All District Defensive MVP.

 

 



Cyera Quintana-Freshman- Infielder – El Paso, TX – Hanks High School

Cyera graduated under the Distinguished Achievement Plan from Hanks High school. She was named to the Second Team All-District team in 2014. Her and fellow teammate Brianna Red led their team to Regional Semi Final Qualifiers in UIL which is the furthest the team has gone in program history. 


 

McKensey Clendenin -Freshman– Catcher – Troy, TX – Troy High School

During her High school years she was a multisport athlete, playing softball, basketball and volleyball. She was an active member of the BETA Club and named to the Academic All-District team 3 times while attending Troy. She was selected to the 2nd Team All-District team as a Junior for Softball and Basketball. Her senior year she batted .407 with a .583 OBP and a .678 Slugging %.



 

Alyssa Lene- Infielder –Freshman- Waipahu, HI – Waipahu High School/President William McKinley High School

Alyssa was named to the Honor roll all 4 years of high School, while she played both Softball and Basketball. She graduated Cum Laude from Waipahu High school. Team captain of both her Softball and Basketball teams 3 times. MaxPreps/Star-Advertiser Newspaper Player of the game, OC16 Team player of the game. 


 

Randi May – Pitcher –Junior- Weatherford, TX – Weatherford College

While at Weatherford College she was named to the All-Academic Team. Through her high school career she boasted a 1.59 ERA, with 81 Wins, 681 Innings pitched and 703 total Strike Outs. She is a 3 time league MVP and 3 time All-Section First Team member.

Natalia Ybarra -Junior- Utility Player—Odessa, TX—Paris Junior College

Natalia is a graduate of Permian High school who went on to play at Paris Junior College. Throughout her High School career she was named to the First Team All-League Team three times and Second Team All-League Team once.

Analisa Fuentes –Junior- Utility Player-- El Paso, TX – El Paso Community College

While at EPCC she was awarded the defensive player of the year in the 2015 season. During her two years at EPCC she was named to the Deans list 4 times (fall of 2013, summer 2014, fall 2014, spring 2015).

Daisy Aguilar—Junior-Utility Player – Clint, TX – El Paso Community College

While at EPCC she was named the team MVP and to the first team All-Conference Team. Throughout her high school career she was named both Offensive and Defensive Player of the year and was twice named the MVP for Clint High School.

Zoe Murillo –Junior- Utility Player – El Paso, TX – Odessa College

Zoe is a graduate of Chapin high school. While in her senior season (2013) at Chapin is racked up the following accolades: Max Preps All- American Second team- catcher, 4A All-State Third Team Catcher-Texas Sports Writers Association, 4A All-State Selection- Texas Girls Coaches Association, 2013 All City player of the year, All District Co-MVP and All District Academic Team. During her senior campaign she led the Huskies to a District Championship, Area Championship, ending their season finishing in the sweet 16. While attending Junior College in Odessa she was an All-Region Selection, All-American 2nd team selection helping her team win the conference in 2014 and go on to place 5th in the National NJCAA tournament. Zoe was able to accomplish these feats on the field while off the field she was placed on the 2015 NJCAA DI Academic All American Team.

Melissa Zuniga –Junior- Outfielder – Anaheim, CA – Midland College

Melissa is from Anaheim, CA where she attended Katella high school. After graduation she attended Midland College where she was an outstanding outfielder for their program. She garnered the Fighting Lady Chap honor award as well as being named to the WJCAC All-Conference team and the Region V All-Region team both as an outfielder.
