A man detonated a homemade bomb outside the U.S. Embassy in Beijing Thursday, but only the bomber was injured, according to the embassy statement.
“There was an explosion at approximately 1pm today on the street outside the South East corner of the Embassy compound,” the U.S. embassy said in a tweet. “Other than the bomber, no other people were injured and there was no damage to embassy property.”

The suspect was identified by his surname, Jiang, who local police said is a 26-year-old from Inner Mongolia, the Associated Press reported.
He sustained a hand injury from the explosion, which was made from fireworks. There were no other injuries, no casualties, and there appears to be no damage to the property.
A motive for the attack is still not known.
