Make carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in Texas schools mandatory
Make carbon monoxide (CO) detectors in Texas schools mandatory
Why this petition matters
I found out the hard way that carbon monoxide (CO) detectors were not mandatory in Texas public schools. After a scare at my own children's school in Dallas last year, I was informed of this alarming fact. The children in our school had been exposed to CO over an extended period of time due to the lack of CO detectors in the school. The only way we were alerted to the CO leak was when levels rose so high our children, teachers and staff were getting sick and some had to be hospitalized. Story below:
A year later and these life saving devices are still not mandatory in our public school buildings. This is such a basic need, this is safety 101.
I would like your help in making carbon monoxide detectors mandatory in ALL Texas public schools. These detectors are just as, or even more important than fire alarms as CO is a colorless, odorless killer that is slowing poisoning our Texas children and teachers in the classroom everyday. We are putting our children, teachers and staff in our schools at a great risk everyday that these monitors are not in place. Let's not wait for a tragedy to occur to make this happen. We can do better than this for our children. Please join me in asking for this needed change!
