What is UATAUEIST Project

UATAUEIST is an artistic project to raise awareness about the importance of recycling in India.

one project in three steps

1) Our theatre piece PLASTIKKATTI reflects the problematic of waste. We will create the piece in advance to performe at Kattaikkuttu Sangam and Ranga Shankara Theatre Bangalore in India and at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri in Switzerland

2) During one month we will share workshops of acrobatic, juggling and clown skills with the students of the Kattaikkuttu Sangam.

3) As the result of our workshops, we will create a collective show with the students of the Kattaikkuttu Sangam, based on theme of recycling.

Background

In the beginning of 2o16 Rebekka Gather went to the Kattaikkuttu Sangam, a theatre school for the rural population in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu in India, to teach acrobatics and aerial silk.

Motivated by the success of this experience, and thanks to the invitation of Dr. Hanne M. de Bruin-Rajagopal, the director of Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam Sangam, Rebekka decided to create the project UATAUEIST together with Alessandra and Santiago.

Reason of the project

The disposal of solid waste and the lack of recycling in India is a real urgency. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found out that at least 40% of urban waste is not collected, and what is taken is not even recycled. This means that the majority of waste is accumulating in the streets, the cities and the fields.

Living and studying in Switzerland, one of the leading countries in recycling made us realize how important it is for the whole planet to protect our environment. This respect towards the nature inspires us to make the world a better place to live and to share the habits of recycling where they are needed the most.

Plastikkatti, the Show

«Lost in a jungle of trash, three young adventurers decide to camp. In this upside-down world full of mountains and rivers of waste, they face surreal encounters with fantastic creatures and absurd situations that will test their courage and lead them to discover that even in this sea of plastic, the true beauty of nature fearlessly resists.

Made entirely of recycled waste (plastic, paper, PET), the scenery and costumes evoke a tropical forest where the actors create comic and poetic situations through juggling, puppetry, projections, music, percussion and dance using objects made of waste.»
