UAlbany Football Reveals Alternate Uniform

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University at Albany football program unveiled an alternate third uniform Thursday afternoon, which will be worn on the Sept. 12 home opener versus Rhode Island.

A change from the program's traditional gold helmets and purple home jerseys, the alternate uniform features a purple helmet with “UAlbany” written in an arch, Nike's Anthracite Grey as a base jersey and pant color, and detailed accents of purple and gold throughout.

“We are always going to be a traditional team and wear our traditional colors, but it's nice to have a third uniform,” said Head Coach Greg Gattuso. “It's great for recruiting and we're excited to have it.”

“The kids want to wear them as soon as possible,” added Gattuso. "They'd probably wear them at Buffalo if I'd let them, but we're going to wear them against Rhode Island and then probably another game later in the year.”

Redshirt junior tight end Nic Ketter acted as the new uniform model for both the team reveal on the night of Aug. 13th and today's public unveiling. Ketter tore his ACL during the spring and is out for the season, but still serves a major leadership role for the Great Danes

“It's a symbol of what the program is going for,” said Ketter donning the fresh threads. “We're trying to take it to the next level. We're going to have a lot of firsts this year -- It's the first time we have an alternate uniform, the first time we're playing an FBS school, and hopefully we'll have a couple other firsts. It's an exciting year and an exciting time to be a part of UAlbany."
