CAMAS — Meadowdale rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Mount Rainier 3-2 in overtime and claim its first-ever Class 3A state boys soccer championship May 29 at Doc Harris Stadium.

Junior Solly Gold scored twice in the final 15 minutes to force the game into overtime and then set up Aaron Roberts for the game-winning goal, which was scored with just 10.9 seconds remaining in the overtime period.

The Mavericks defeated Western Conference South rival Shorecrest 2-1 in a shootout a day earlier in a semifinal matchup. Senior goalkeeper Eric Marty made three saves in the shootout to lead Meadowdale to the victory.

Meadowdale’s previous best finish at state was third last year, which was its first appearance in the tournament in 23 years.
