CNN's staffers are fuming that the cable network hired Corey Lewandowski, the campaign manager Donald Trump kicked to the curb this week, according to the New York Post.

The Post's Page Six described the mood inside the network as approaching a "near revolt."

From the Post's story:

"CNN is facing a near internal revolt over the Corey hiring," said a TV insider, who described many in the newsroom as "livid." "Female reporters and producers especially . . . They are organizing and considering publicly demanding" that Lewandowski be let go.

Lewandowski's ouster on Monday was reportedly orchestrated by Trump's children and culminated in a meeting, according to New York magazine, where Lewandowski failed to cough up answers The Donald was seeking.

In other words, he was set up.

By Thursday, he was on the air at CNN, promising to "tell it like it is." In his first appearance, he broke a bit of news, saying Trump's list of potential picks for vice president was down to four people.

Lewandowski rose from relative obscurity to his position in the Trump campaign and seemed to lavish the attention -- until long-time political operative Paul Manafort joined to campaign earlier this year to clean things up heading into next month's GOP convention.

Along the way, Lewandowski famously clashed with reporters, most famously his physical encounter with Michelle Fields, then a reporter at Breitbart News. Lewandowksi was charged with simple battery, but charges were later dropped.

In a story Thursday on CNN Money, Lewandowski's hiring was hailed as a coup for CNN executives.
