As a chink of eerie green light beams down deep into the ocean, the divers in the water look like they are being summoned by extra-terrestrials.

The series of mystical snaps was taken by underwater photographer Alastair Scarlett, from Newquay, Cornwall, during trips to Gozo, the Maldives and Mexico.
Mr Scarlett, 38, who works as a printer at a garment decoration company, said: "Each dive is different, depending on the conditions and depth.
"The key is to expect the unexpected! It's difficult, but preparation is key.

"The essence of free diving is to remain relaxed at all times, so keep that in mind.
"Some divers are complete novices, who may not always be natural underwater, and some are seasoned divers who can comfortably hold their breath of long periods of time.
"I'm doing what I love, and I couldn't enjoy it more."
