Jill Scott Receives Lady of Soul Honor at 2015 Soul Train Awards [VIDEO]

R&B has seen its share of stars come and go over the past two decades, but few have left quite an indelible impression on fans and critics alike than Jill Scott. At the 2015 Soul Train Awards, Jilly from Philly was honored with the first-ever Lady of Soul Award.

After being introduced by Regina Hall, who opened by saying "Before I met Jill Scott, in my head, she was already my friend," a clip of fellow artists and collaborators such as Usher, John Singleton, and Whoopi Goldberg all sang Scott's praises. From noting her talent, resilience and versatility.

Taking the stage after the clip ends, a jubilant Scott addresses the crowd, stating, "The goal was to write something that you could relate to. The goal was to be in your house when you make that new baby. To be there to squash that argument to incite it if necessary," before delving into her acceptance speech. Deciding to give the people what they want, the 43-year-old songbird takes the stage for an extended performance.

Televised in black and white - giving the set a vintage feel - Scott proceeded to wow the audience with a medley of her new material mixed in with a few of her trademark cuts. Backed by three male backup singers and a live band, the stage abruptly turns golden when her 2004 hit of the same name plays briefly. Songs ranging from "Whatever" to "Cross My Mind" were included before reaching a crescendo with the fan favorite, "A Long Walk," which brought the performance full circle for the newly crowned Lady of Soul.

After 15 years in the music business, Jill Scott is indeed a Lady of Soul and this prestigious honor is very much well-deserved.
