Do You Want To Be Valued?

“The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people.” ~ Theodore Roosevelt, American President

Great leaders know how to build relationships with those they lead. They understand the need to get along if you plan to have your team go along with the plan.

The majority of people, regardless of where they are in the world, believe in some version of the Golden Rule. The problem is we do not take that extra second to remember it when we are with others whom we disagree, or are having an unpleasant encounter.

Can you imagine what the world would be like if we all used the Golden Rule? It does not mean that we would all agree with each other. What it does mean is we would take the time to try to understand each other and treat each other, as we would want to be treated in that same situation.

Implementing the Golden Rule only can begin with each one of us. We need to think about how we want to be treated in each situation that we encounter. Even when the person we encounter is not nice we need to think about why they may be feeling this way and how would we want to be treated if the situation was reversed and then treat them with respect and kindness.

The Golden Rule is about being ethical, and making ethical decisions in our daily lives and treating other human beings, as we would want to be treated.

Great leaders have returned to the basics “Treat others as you would want to be treated.” Do you want to be valued? Then you must value others. Do want to be appreciated for who you are and what you believe? Then first appreciate others for who they are and what they believe.

It begins with each of us individually.  We each are accountable for our own actions and reactions.  Others will respond to how we have treated them.

  1. We are thinking alike…Last week I wrote a post about this in the form of an allegory. Sometimes the reciprocity is not always direct but we must keep on practicing to do what is good.
