FALL 2014 GAC PRESEASON POLLS (PDF)
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Great American Conference has released its preseason coaches polls for the fall sports of the 2014 season. The University of Arkansas at Monticello comes in at ninth in football, tenth in volleyball, fifth in men's cross country and tenth in women's cross country.
The Weevils football team finished eighth in the league last year and return 16 starters and 55 lettermen from that squad. UAM's 2014 schedule, similar to several other football-playing members in the league, features only conference games and one off week.
Henderson State is a unanimous pick to three-peat as GAC champions, followed by Harding in second, Ouachita Baptist in third, East Central in fourth, Southern Arkansas in fifth, Southwestern Oklahoma in sixth, Arkansas Tech in seventh and Southeastern Oklahoma in eighth. Northwestern Oklahoma and Southern Nazarene follow UAM to round out the 2014 football poll.
The UAM volleyball squad returns four letterwinners from last year's eighth place finish. The Blossoms begin their 2014 campaign September 5-6 at the Angelo State Invitational.
Arkansas Tech has earned the preseason favorite title in volleyball, followed by Harding in second, Southern Nazarene in third, Ouachita Baptist in fourth, Southwestern Oklahoma in fifth, Southeastern Oklahoma in sixth, Southern Arkansas in seventh, East Central in eight, and Northwestern Oklahoma in ninth. Following UAM in the 2014 volleyball poll in Henderson State to round out the field.
Harding is the preseason favorite to win both the men's and women's cross country titles. UAM's cross country season gets underway on September 6 at the Bob Gravett Invitational in Arkadelphia.
