Yoo Ah In’s The Throne Goes to The 2016 Oscar, While Veteran to 2015 BIFF

Super good news! Two Yoo Ah In’s new movies are going to two prestigious international film awards; The Academy Awards and Busan International Film Festival 🙂

Yoo Ah In’s upcoming historical film The Throne (Sado), which set to release on September 16, is officially selected by The Korean Film Council (KOFIC) as Korea’s entry at the 88th American Academy Awards (Oscar) Foreign Language category.

The Throne, starring Song Kang Ho and Yoo Ah In, is included in the list of Submissions to the 88th Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.

KOFIC representative revealed the reason behind selecting The Throne (director Lee Jun Ik, Tiger Pictures) on September 2.

“We entered The Throne as South Korea’s representative into the Foreign-language Oscar race, because it is based on the history of Korea and the story has more universal values that foreigners highly appreciate and sympathize”.

The 88th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, Yoo Ah In’s mega blockbuster Veteran (director Ryu Seung Wan), which has garnered over 11 million spectators this Monday, is officially going to The 20th Busan International Film Festival.

BIFF is one of the most significant film festivals in Asia. The BIFF committee stated that Veteran along with The Assassinations have boosted the local cinemas after experiencing the sluggish state for some time.

Veteran, starring Hwang Jung Min and Yoo Ah In, will be lining up in “Korean Cinema Today” section in Panorama category.

The 20th Pusan International Film Festival will be held from October 1 to 10th.

Congrats, Master Sik! 😀
