Documentary goes behind the scenes at the British National Gallery

“A tour de force”

–Peter Schjeldahl, The New Yorker

“Meticulously crafted, intellectually intricate, and touched with profundity. An invigorating portrait. A tribute to the wonders of creative expression. A film about classics and their illustrious home that itself has been made by a modern master.”

–Nick Schager, Village Voice

I will be screening the 2014 documentary, “National Gallery” on Friday, May 6 from 6 to 9 pm in my studio. The address is Backstreet Studio "C" on Art Alley off of South A Street in Santa Rosa.
The movie last for three hours and is structured as a series of vignettes. Watch a few scenes or stay for the entire film.

“The explicit subject of Frederick Wiseman’s magnificent documentary “National Gallery” is the stately museum that rises at the northern end of Trafalgar Square in London. Like most of Mr. Wiseman’s work, the movie is at once specific and general, fascinating in its pinpoint detail and transporting in its cosmic reach. It’s about art and process, money and mystery, and all the many, many people gazing and gawping and, at times, lining up to see a blockbuster show. That “National Gallery” is also about movies is surely a given.”

Two Openings

In addition to the film, there are two other events in the SOFA neighborhood this Friday.
“Sixteen Feet & 10 Toes” Paintings by Patricia Fritz, opens at 312 S A Street, #6.
At Christie Marks Fine Art Gallery across the hall, Selected Works by Barbara Elliott opens. Please come out to support these talented artists. Both openings run from 5 to 8 pm.
