With the weather taking a cold turn and nights getting longer, Portlanders are ducking into restaurants to enjoy drinks or a cozy meal indoors. With its reputation as a cold and rainy place, Portland has always housed a number of restaurants and bars with fireplaces, places where people can sip stouts or soups by the warm crackle of the flame. Many, many Portland restaurants and bars are home to patios with outdoor fire pits, from EastBurn to the Rambler; this map specifically focuses on restaurants with indoor fireplaces, although a few spots on this map also have outdoor fire pit options for those who feel uneasy dining indoors. This map also skips over restaurants with wood-burning ovens in the kitchen — lovely, but they’re not exactly what we’re going for here. McMenamins Chapel Pub
This renovated chapel-turned-pub has lots of cozy nooks and crannies, including one near a traditional fireplace, but in the center of one of the dining areas is a larger, toasty-warm wood burning stove. For the full experience, devotees pair a fireside seat with a Terminator Stout and some Cajun tots.

Old Town Brewing
The Northeast Portland location of Old Town Brewing is home to a beautiful stone fireplace next to the bar, within a taproom with serious Tudor design touches. Visitors can sit in plush armchairs next to the fire with a pint or a Detroit-style pan pizza. Old Town is also available for private events.

Although Radio Room is mostly known for its large outdoor fireplace on the lower-floor patio, the dining room with the retro bingo sign is also home to a burly wood stove. To lean into the cold-weather vibes, opt for a bowl of the soup du jour, or a hearty plate of brunch biscuits and gravy.

This NE Alberta neighborhood bar is home to a roaring fireplace indoors, as well as a covered patio fireplace. Whether you cozy up to the spot indoors or out, any trip to Binks should involve pizza, pool, and a cheap pint.
The Fireside
As its name would suggest, the Fireside has two large fireplaces: a round one in the back dining room and a large fireplace in the bar area. Here, Nob Hill neighbors go high-brow or low-brow, either opting for hearty French dips and smash burgers or baked chicken and blackened steelhead.

Papa Haydn is known for its dazzling layer cakes, but its restaurant serves nice array of small plates and cocktails for a lovely evening by the fire. Visitors should ask for a seat in the back to score a nice spot next to the fireplace, which burns throughout the winter months. Go all-out with a cup of cocoa, French onion soup, and a seasonal dessert like maple gingerbread torte.

This legendary Portland Peruvian restaurant is mainly known as a celebration spot for towering causas and super-fresh ceviche. Fire crackles in the stone hearth at this medieval-themed mead hall and leather shop where visitors are welcome to bring board/card games or come in cosplay. Muddy Rudder Public House
Sellwood's cozy neighborhood bar started out as a bungalow, and the house's original fireplace is still in action, lit in the evenings now that the weather has turned. Neighborhood locals warm up alongside it with a hot toddy or pitcher of beer, and maybe a personal-sized pizza.
