(Beloit, Wis.) - The Carroll University women's basketball team picked up another Midwest Conference victory, this time against a pesky Beloit College team.

The Lady Bucs entered the game near the bottom of the league standings but gave the high powered Pioneers are run for their money, despite CU never trailing in the game.

Carroll seemed well in control of the game on several occasions but each time it looked like the Pioneers were going to deliver the knockout blow, Beloit would respond with a run to jump right back in to contention.

Carroll held as much as an 11 point lead at the midway point of the first half but the Lady Bucs would tie the score with 4:12 remaining. The visitors would answer and extended to a 43-37 lead at the break.

The second half was much the same. In the early going Carroll appeared in cruise control but the feisty home side tied the score at 52 with 12:01 to play. An 8-0 run by Carroll reestablished control of the game and played a role CU leading by 15 points at the 5:11 mark.

Over the next three minutes Beloit would make a run that would put a scare in Carroll's MWC title hopes. The Lady Bucs cut the lead to five points with just over two minutes to play but timely Pioneer baskets in the closing moments thwarted the upset bid.

Malory Christenson led Carroll with 17 points while Corrine Engels added a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. Rachel Van Sluys chipped in with 14 points and Breann Maryanski added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Carroll improves to 13-4 overall, 10-2 in the MWC.
