Dear Ohio Arts Advocates,

It is my pleasure to share with you that Governor John R. Kasich and state lawmakers have approved a historic funding increase for arts and culture across the state. This increased investment could not have happened without your support and grassroots efforts aimed at increasing arts funding.

Governor Kasich and Ohio legislators provided final approval for House Bill 64, the state of Ohio’s biennial operating budget for fiscal years 2016 and 2017, on June 30, 2015. In a continued effort to provide transparency in both leadership and investment, the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) is pleased to outline what that entails for the future of the arts in Ohio.

Today we celebrate with you, our supporters and arts leaders, as we gear up to do our best work to produce a solid return on the public’s investment in arts and culture in the state of Ohio. Please consider writing letters to thank your elected state leadership for their continued, strong support of the arts.

Thank you,
Donna S. Collins

Executive Director
Ohio Arts Council

Let's Look at the Numbers

House Bill 64 appropriates $28,944,100 from the state’s General Revenue Fund (GRF) to the OAC.

This is an increased investment of nearly $6.25 million, or 27.5%, compared to the previous biennium.

It represents the largest increase in state funds (in monetary terms) in the OAC’s 50-year history.

The OAC’s budget is now within $3.3 million of its peak biennial GRF funding level of $32.2 million, achieved in fiscal years 2000 and 2001.
