IUT organise seminar on public transport in Surat

The diamond city will be witnessing its first of a series of seminars on public transport in Surat: status and challenges organised jointly by the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT) India and the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology on Saturday.

SURAT: The diamond city will be witnessing its first of a series of seminars on public transport in Surat: status and challenges organised jointly by the Institute of Urban Transport (IUT) India and the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology on Saturday.
The regional chapter of IUT-Surat has planed a series of seminars with the SVNIT to identify, analyze and assess the urban transportation problems of the city.
This is the first effort towards discussing, brainstorming and drafting and suggesting possible solution to the city’s challenges for traffic.
The diamond city has a recorded population of 44.5 lakh. The city is growing multi-dimensionally, posing various challenges to the administrators. The services, infrastructure and transportation needs to cope up with the rise in demand.
The city has six intra movement corridors and 11 major roads. The total road length of the city is around 2,500 kilometers. BRTS is also coping up as a mass transit system for the city.
The seminar, which is going to be attended by over 160 participants from the Surat Urban Development Authority (SUDA), Surat Municipal Corporation (SMCC), Town planning department of the State Government, will focus on the field work and research on the theme. It will also include the demographic, socio economic and transportation profile of Surat.
The IUT has invited additional chief, transport and communication division of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to deliver the speech.
