Krieger registers first career double-double in loss to Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Freshman forward Dylan Krieger set new career-highs with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but Moravian's up-tempo offense was humming Saturday, allowing the Greyhounds to emerge from Thompson Gymnasium with a 98-84 win over Elizabethtown.

As Krieger's minutes have increased, so too has his productivity. His 22 points in 21 minutes against the Hounds marked the fifth time this season he's finished in double figures when playing 20 minutes or more. The Hanover native made 10 of 16 shots overall and had 11 points before the half as the Jays (3-18, 1-12 Landmark) tried to keep pace.

Moravian and the Blue Jays played a tight game in Bethlehem back on Jan. 9, that the Greyhounds (9-13, 4-10) ultimately won 81-76, but the visitors did their best to make sure the rematch wouldn't be as dramatic.

Jimmy Murray knocked down a 3-pointer on Moravian's opening possession and made all three of his tries from deep in the first four minutes. A pair of Jake McGee free throws with 14:19 left in the half gave the Hounds a 10-point cushion, 20-10, and they would hold onto it for much of the afternoon.

Murray and Brandon McGuire, the Hounds' top two scorers both had 11 points at the half, and McGee hit all four of his field goals (3-of-3 from three) and both of his free throws for 13 first-half points. Moravian shot 71.4% (20-of-28) from the floor and 76.9% (10-of-13) from 3-point land in grabbing a 60-47 halftime lead. The 60 points were the most allowed by E-town in a half this season.

Elizabethtown trailed 82-59 with 10:43 to go, but had one last push left. Krieger scored five in a row to start a 16-4 run that closed the gap to 11 with just over six minutes to play.

McGee's traditional three-point play and a long ball from Sean Hanna quickly pushed Moravian's advantage back to 17, 92-75.

Elizabethtown achieved its best offensive numbers of the season, setting new benchmarks in points (84), field goals made (37) and field goal percentage (55.2%), but was left with little to show for its effort. A trying season saw the Blue Jays lose for the 13th time in their last 14 games.

Josh Eden had 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting for the Jays, while Tommy James and Jamil Pines-Elliott each contributed 10 points.

Murray and McGuire shared top scoring honors for the Hounds with 20 apiece. McGee finished with 18 points, Oneil Holder had 14 points and 11 boards and Hanna 10 points.

Moravian wound up shooting 13-of-24 (54.2%) from 3-point range for the contest and connected on 54.8% (34-of-62) of its shots overall.

Elizabethtown heads to Susquehanna Monday evening to make up the game that was snowed out on Jan. 23. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
