Celebrate Spring in Wake Forest!

Wake Forest loves spring - not only because wintry weather no longer has us trapped inside, but also because we have so many outstanding opportunities to celebrate this colorful, sunny season. "Six Sundays in Spring" Concert Series Begins Sunday

Bring the kids, friends, a picnic and a blanket and settle in for some foot-tapping, finger-snapping good times! The 2015 Six Sundays in Spring concert series will be held on consecutive Sundays from April 26 through May 31.

Meet in the Street May 2

The 35th Annual Meet in the Street festival returns to downtown Wake Forest on Saturday, May 2. Presented by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, Meet in the Street annually draws well over 20,000 people to downtown Wake Forest to enjoy many of the best artists and craftsmen in our area. This year's festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will again include portions of South Taylor Street, South Brooks Street and South White Street. Visitors to Meet in the Street are invited to browse over 150 arts and crafts vendors, indulge in their favorite festival foods and enjoy a variety of live entertainment. Offering the best in regional talent, this year's lineup of entertainers includes local dance groups and choirs, a diverse selection of live bands, martial arts academies and more.  

 

 

Historic Cemetery Walking Tour May 9 

The Wake Forest Cemetery Advisory Board (CAB) is sponsoring a free walking tour at the Wake Forest Cemetery on Saturday, May 9, from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The cemetery is located at 400 N. White St., less than a quarter-mile from downtown Wake Forest. The self-guided tour will celebrate the lives of the men and women who established the Wake Forest community, as well as its culture and destiny. Admission is free and open to the public.

 

 

Wake Forest Community Calendar

The Wake Forest Community Calendar is a comprehensive listing of upcoming local events submitted by non-profit groups and organizations in our area. The Town of Wake Forest provides the Community Calendar as a free service and invites local non-profits, including churches, civic clubs and other community organizations, to submit their events for inclusion on the calendar - according to our detailed submission guidelines. The Community Calendar is typically updated each week on Thursday or Friday. Event announcements received at least one week prior to the event will be included for publication in The Week Ahead. The Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment is proud to present the 16th Annual Wake Forest HerbFest! This popular annual event has been offering attendees the greatest selection of herb plants and perennials in one place for the last sixteen years. This year's event, a fundraiser for the Graham Johnson Cultural Arts Endowment, in honor of the herb of the year, Savory, is themed, "Savor the herbs". TGIF Dance Party  - 70's Disco

Family Dance - Make this a monthly family date night! Boogie down and learn new basic steps. Each month will be a different theme so don't be afraid to dress the part. All ages welcome and no experience required. Professional DJ and dance instruction provided by Rachel Macholl's Academy of Dance. Live long and dance! From 9-11 pm, our dance party will keep going for adults ages 21 and older with a cash bar for beer, wine and soft drinks. Come and groove through the decades to a variety of popular music! Southeastern Seminary Multi-Family Yard Sale

SEBTS Housing Office parking lot, corner of Stadium Drive and North Wingate Street

The Southeastern Seminary Housing Office is sponsoring a multi-family yard sale on Saturday, April 25, at the parking lot in front of Housing Office (located on the corner of Stadium Drive and North Wingate Street). We have many participants selling items. Everyone in the community is invited to attend. Follow the yard sale signs placed around campus to find the specific location. CenturyLink Community Yard Sale

Saturday, April 25; 7 am - Noon

CenturyLink, 14111 Capital Blvd.

The CenturyLink Community Relations Team is once again hosting a Community Yard Sale with proceeds benefitting the Franklin County Relay for Life. Yard sale spots are sold for $20 each, and 100% of the money raised goes to Relay for Life. All the proceeds from selling merchandise belong to the seller. Anyone interested in reserving a spot needs to contact Stacey Arnold at CenturyLink. She can be reached via email at [email protected] or 919-229-4431. The payment for the spot will be collected the day of the sale, but prior reservations are required. Sellers are responsible for providing their own tables and merchandise displays.

Local Celebrities Dance Like the Stars to Fundraise for the National Inclusion Project

The Triangle's favorite local celebs are teaming up with Arthur Murray Studios to bring you the 2015 Dancing Like the Stars Competition! Watch eight couples waltz, salsa, rumba and more as they show off their ballroom dance skills in support of the National Inclusion Project. Milton's Family Night Fundraiser for Standing with Jonathan

Come out to eat at Milton's in Wakefield to show your support for Jonathan Barnes.  Jonathan is a 7th grader at Franklin Academy who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on February 26. He has a long road of treatments ahead of him.  Milton's wil donate a portion of sales from this night back to Standing with Jonathan to help the family with medical bills.  Eat in or carry out.  Be sure to tell your server "I stand with Jonathan"!      

 

 

First Friday Flix - The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts hosts free, movie showings at 7 pm on the first Friday of each month. The featured movie in May is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1. The movie is rated PG 13. Free and open to the public, First Friday Flix movie screenings feature a variety of film favorites and genres, including comedies, dramas, thrillers and more, often with a seasonal or historical theme. Concessions, including popcorn and soft drinks, will be available for purchase. Northeast Piedmont Chorale's Spring Concert

Friday, May 1; 7 pm

First Presbyterian Church, 222 Young St., Henderson

The Northeast Piedmont Chorale is pleased to invite the public to attend their Spring Concert series, "Now Is The Gentle Season." The Northeast Piedmont Chorale (NPC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, volunteer organization whose mission for 27 years has been to perform fine choral music for residents of the Northeast Piedmont area of North Carolina. With 40 singers under her direction now, Conductor Sue Crocker from Wake Forest is in her fourth year with the group. She is an Associate Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Henderson where she directs three vocal choirs and handbell musicians; and she maintains a private studio, teaching weekly piano and organ lessons. Organist Alan Davis from Louisburg accompanies the Chorale. He is in his second year with the group and is organist at Louisburg UMC along with being accompanist for the Louisburg College Chorale and chapel organist. The Chorale's spring concerts feature a variety of music ranging from loves song to madrigals. The event will end with several pieces composed and arranged by Sally Albrecht and Jay Althouse and the chorale will be joined by singers from all over the area that attended the Spring Sing choral workshop on April 18, 2015. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and all concerts are free.

Friends of the Wake Forest Library Annual Used Book Sale

Saturday, May 2; 8 am

Ledford Center, 120 S. Wingate St.

Mark your calendars because the Friends of the Wake Forest Library Annual Used Book Sale is coming this spring. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, it will coincide with the annual Meet in the Street event in Historic Downtown Wake Forest. Prior to the sale, the Friends will gladly accept your donations of hardcover and paperback books that are recently published and in good condition. CDs and DVDs that are playable and in good condition are also accepted. Textbooks and magazines will not be accepted. Donations are being accepted at 15 different sites in and around town now through April 20. In addition, volunteers are always welcome for collecting, receiving, and sorting the donations. The sale will be held at the Ledford Center, 120 South Wingate, on the campus of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. Members of the Friends of the Wake Forest Library are invited to begin shopping at 8 a.m., and everyone else is welcome to shop at 9:00 a.m. Entry to the sale will end at 3:30 p.m. Memberships will be available at the door beginning at 8 a.m. Cash or checks only will be accepted for all memberships and purchases. Because this is an event to help support the Wake Forest Library, the branch will not be able to accept donations for the Friends' Used Book Sale. The Friends of the Wake Forest Library is an all-volunteer, non-profit group composed of local citizens who believe in, support, and champion the community library in the Town of Wake Forest. The Friends join with the library in supporting the mission of the Wake County Public Libraries, which is to promote the love of reading and to foster the pursuit of knowledge. Bike Safety Fair

May is Bike Safety Month and the Town of Wake Forest is helping to raise awareness about the importance of safe bicycle use by sponsoring a free Bicycle Safety Fair on Saturday, May 2. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in town hall's Brooks Street parking lot, 301 S. Brooks St. As an added bonus, this year's safety fair is being offered as part of the 35th Annual Meet in the Street. Facilitated by the Wake Forest Planning Department, the Bicycle Safety Fair is designed to teach safe bicycle riding skills to children ages five to 14 and their parents. Participants will be taught safe riding techniques through an obstacle course that re-creates real-life situations. The course illustrates the proper way for cyclists to scan for automobiles, develop correct riding techniques, utilize intersection safety tips and avoid road hazards such as tree limbs, pot holes and rocks. Forest Moon Theater Presents "Rainbow Fish"

Forest Moon Theater will present "Rainbow Fish" at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts on Saturday, May 2, at 11 am. Talented and energetic, Forest Moon Theater's acting trio of Beth Martin, Jennifer Schulz and Mitzi Bissette create original and innovative children's plays using literature, improvisation and pure interactive fun where children are cast right out of the audience into the show! No two shows are ever the same and adults have as much fun as the kids. Tickets are $5 per person (plus tax). Advance tickets can be purchased online and at the Renaissance Centre Box Office.
