The CenturyLink Community Relations Team is once again hosting a Community Yard Sale with proceeds benefitting the Franklin County Relay for Life. Yard sale spots are sold for $20 each, and 100% of the money raised goes to Relay for Life. All the proceeds from selling merchandise belong to the seller. The payment for the spot will be collected the day of the sale, but prior reservations are required. Sellers are responsible for providing their own tables and merchandise displays.

Northeast Piedmont Chorale's Spring Concert

The Northeast Piedmont Chorale is pleased to invite the public to attend their Spring Concert series, "Now Is The Gentle Season." The Northeast Piedmont Chorale (NPC) is a non-profit, non-sectarian, volunteer organization whose mission for 27 years has been to perform fine choral music for residents of the Northeast Piedmont area of North Carolina. With 40 singers under her direction now, Conductor Sue Crocker from Wake Forest is in her fourth year with the group. She is an Associate Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Henderson where she directs three vocal choirs and handbell musicians; and she maintains a private studio, teaching weekly piano and organ lessons. Organist Alan Davis from Louisburg accompanies the Chorale. He is in his second year with the group and is organist at Louisburg UMC along with being accompanist for the Louisburg College Chorale and chapel organist. The Chorale's spring concerts feature a variety of music ranging from loves song to madrigals. The event will end with several pieces composed and arranged by Sally Albrecht and Jay Althouse and the chorale will be joined by singers from all over the area that attended the Spring Sing choral workshop on April 18, 2015. All are welcome and encouraged to attend and all concerts are free.

Friends of the Wake Forest Library Annual Used Book Sale

Mark your calendars because the Friends of the Wake Forest Library Annual Used Book Sale is coming this spring. Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, it will coincide with the annual Meet in the Street event in Historic Downtown Wake Forest. Prior to the sale, the Friends will gladly accept your donations of hardcover and paperback books that are recently published and in good condition. CDs and DVDs that are playable and in good condition are also accepted. Textbooks and magazines will not be accepted. In addition, volunteers are always welcome for collecting, receiving, and sorting the donations. The sale will be held at the Ledford Center, 120 South Wingate, on the campus of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest. Members of the Friends of the Wake Forest Library are invited to begin shopping at 8 a.m., and everyone else is welcome to shop at 9:00 a.m. Entry to the sale will end at 3:30 p.m. Memberships will be available at the door beginning at 8 a.m. Cash or checks only will be accepted for all memberships and purchases. Because this is an event to help support the Wake Forest Library, the branch will not be able to accept donations for the Friends' Used Book Sale. The Friends of the Wake Forest Library is an all-volunteer, non-profit group composed of local citizens who believe in, support, and champion the community library in the Town of Wake Forest. The Friends join with the library in supporting the mission of the Wake County Public Libraries, which is to promote the love of reading and to foster the pursuit of knowledge. The group raises funds to enhance the Wake Forest Library's facility and program of service, promotes awareness within the community of the library's services and programs, encourages gifts and contributions to the library, and advocates for the library. Bike Safety Fair

May is Bike Safety Month and the Town of Wake Forest is helping to raise awareness about the importance of safe bicycle use by sponsoring a free Bicycle Safety Fair on Saturday, May 2. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in town hall's Brooks Street parking lot, 301 S. Brooks St. As an added bonus, this year's safety fair is being offered as part of the 35th Annual Meet in the Street. Facilitated by the Wake Forest Planning Department, the Bicycle Safety Fair is designed to teach safe bicycle riding skills to children ages five to 14 and their parents. Participants will be taught safe riding techniques through an obstacle course that re-creates real-life situations. The course illustrates the proper way for cyclists to scan for automobiles, develop correct riding techniques, utilize intersection safety tips and avoid road hazards such as tree limbs, pot holes and rocks. The 35th Annual Meet in the Street festival returns to downtown Wake Forest on Saturday, May 2. Presented by the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, Meet in the Street annually draws well over 20,000 people to downtown Wake Forest to enjoy many of the best artists and craftsmen in our area. This year's festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will again include portions of South Taylor Street, South Brooks Street and South White Street. Visitors to Meet in the Street are invited to browse over 150 arts and crafts vendors, indulge in their favorite festival foods and enjoy a variety of live entertainment. Offering the best in regional talent, this year's lineup of entertainers includes local dance groups and choirs, a diverse selection of live bands, martial arts academies and more.
