Tom Brady: 'Hard to Imagine Us Winning'
The New England Patriots quarterback and the team's coach, Bill Belichick, talk about the discipline and mental toughness it took to come back from a 25-point deficit and earn a fifth title.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS QUARTERBACK AND SUPER BOWL MVP TOM BRADY SAYING: “Yeah. They’re all special. Two years ago it came down to the Malcolm (Butler) making that play. This year, being down 25 points, I mean it’s hard to imagine us winning. It took a lot of great plays and that’s why you play to the end. It’s a 60 minute game and at halftime we weren’t down (mentally) at all. We were disappointed in the way we played and knew that we could go out and do a lot better in the second half. So.” “When we got it rolling there in the second half it was tough to, it was tough to slow us down.” “James White (Patriots running back) is just, you know he’s everything you want in a teammate and a football player and dependable, consistent, durable, the best attitude, brings it every day and, you know, we just kept going to him so I think that speaks for itself.” (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS COACH BILL BELICHICK SAYING: “What a game, can’t say enough about our team, we got some really good coaches. I thought that our coordinators Matt, Josh, Joe did a tremendous job handling the game. It was a lot of great situational football, adjustments, they just kept coaching. We just kept trying to find a little crack in the armor, keep plugging away and you know our team just showed great mental toughness throughout the game just never really flinched even though the score was so against us for so long, they just kept plugging away, just kept fighting, just kept trying to make plays.” (SOUNDBITE) (English) NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS COACH BILL BELICHICK SAYING: “You know in the end just can’t say enough about our players how hard they competed, what a good job our coaching staff did, you know battling all the way. Gotta give Atlanta credit, that’s a really good football team, Dan’s (Quinn) done a great job with that team, he certainly had them ready to play, they have a lot of great players. Playing in overtime for the championship so doesn’t get any closer than that.”
