CARACAS.—This Tuesday, July 28, across several regions of the world the 61st anniversary of the birth of Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez was commemorated.
In the Cuartel de la Montaña (Mountain Barracks), where the remains of the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution lie, huge numbers of Venezuelans paid tribute to him, according to reports from Prensa Latina.The tribute was led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, who spoke of the figure and the legacy of Chávez.
Cabello reiterated thatVenezuelan revolutionaries will continue alongthe pathdrawn out bythe former presidenttoward fullindependenceandsovereignty.
Political analyst and National Journalism Award winner, José Vicente Rangel, was also present at the ceremony, where he praised Chávez as a natural leader, with a great sense of duty and responsibility.
He also urged all present to revive the history of the episodes that defined him as a revolutionary, including the uprising of February 4, 1992 and his courage during the coup d'etat against his government on April 11, 2002.
The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, evoked the memory of his friend President Hugo Chávez through his Twitter account, where he expressed his affection for the people of Venezuela and recalled Chávez’s struggle for the development of the South American nation.
In Nicaragua, Sandinista media outlets and members of youth movements commemorated the 61st anniversary of the birth of Chávezwith the placing of floral wreaths.
“We are commemorating the 61st anniversary of the birth of our beloved eternal comandante, the American giant,” Erick Rios, coordinator of the Sandinista Youth, stated.
The placing of the wreaths followed a brief symbolic ceremony held in a central square of the Nicaraguan capital, named after the Venezuelan president.
As part of the commemorations for the birthday of Chávez, cultural and sports activities were also carried out in coordination with the Embassy of Venezuela in the Central American country.
In another tribute, the Embassy of Venezuela in Poland commemorated the birth of the Liberator Simón Bolívar andComandante Hugo Chávez with a range of activities that began on July 25 at the Dernalowiczow Palace in the city of Minsk Mazowiecki.
Meanwhile, Venezuela’s diplomatic mission in China commemorated the date under the title “Sembrando Amor” (sowing love), a global initiative promoted by Venezuela, which according to Prensa Latina also saw activities in Egypt, as well as other nations.
Likewise, in Uruguay a seminar entitled “The Thought of Hugo Chávez” took place, in whichhis political ideologywas discussed.
Meanwhile, an Aymara indigenous ritual was performed in the country’s embassy in Bolivia, together with other tributes to Chávez, including the opening of a photographic exhibition on his visits to meet with President Evo Morales, and to various parts of Bolivia.
The Comandante, second of seven brothers, sons of rural teachers, was born on July 28, 1954 in Sabaneta, a town of Barinas, in the Venezuelan western plains.
