Patricia Norris, a six-time Oscar-nominated costume designer including last year for the Best Picture winner 12 Years A Slave and a frequent collaborator of David Lynch and Mel Brooks, died February 20 of natural causes, according to her publicist. She was 83.
Norris was the only person to receive lifetime achievement awards from both the Costume Designers Guild and the Art Directors Guild. Her Oscar noms included for Sunset (1988), 2010 (1984), Victor, Victoria (1982), Lynch’s The Elephant Man (1980) and Days Of Heaven (1978). She often worked with writer-director Lynch both as a production designer and costume designer on such titles as Wild At Heart, Lost Highway and the pilot for the 1990-1991 ABC series Twin Peaks, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy.
Other film credits included Killing Them Softly, The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, The Singing Detective, Big Bad Love, Delivering Milo and Return to Lonesome Dove. Her costume designer credits also included the Mel Brooks movies Silent Movie, High Anxiety and History Of The World: Part 1 as well as Scarface and the TV version of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.
