Lunch & Learn: Lydia See, HUB-BUB/ SCPL Artist In Residence

HUB-BUB and the Spartanburg County Public Libraries introduce their first Artist in Residence. Lydia believes the program will "build a more engaged creative Spartanburg" as she works on community oriented programs. 

Lunch & Learns are  hosted by the Spartanburg County Historical Association and held in the Callie and John Rainey Conference Room in the west wing of Chapman Cultural Center.

Catered lunches will be available through Palmetto Palate, reserved in advance through the Regional History Museum (864.596.3501). Tickets are available at the door.

$5/ticket only; FREE/SCHA Members

$15/ticket and sandwich or salad box (includes beverage and dessert)

Art Lounge turns 5 - pumpkin carving contest
 
The Art Lounge is turning 5 soon!  We are inviting you to take part in our pumpkin carving contest that will take place during our 5 year party on Saturday, October 22nd from 5:00-9:00.  The party will kick off outside with Brandy Lindsay and the Punch playing some great music. We will have food and drinks for you to enjoy, and all the pumpkins will be on display for the public to come see and vote on their favorites.
 
1. The contest is FREE to enter
2. we will have three CASH prizes
3. we just ask that your pumpkin is a real pumpkin. No plastic or look a like style pumpkins - bring your pumpkin carved and ready for display.
4. Pumpkin must be at the Art Lounge and ready for display by 3:00 on Saturday the 22nd.
5. We must know you're going to be a part of the contest. (we must reserve a space for your pumpkin) call 864- 804-6566 or email us at [email protected]
6. One pumpkin entry per person.
 We will need to know by Friday the 14th if you or someone you know is going to be in this contest.

Metaphor's, a solo exhibition by Addam Duncan

The West Main Artists Cooperative will host the solo show "Metaphors" by Artist Addam Duncan at 578 W Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29301 from October 20th until November 12th. The opening reception will be held on Thursday, October 20th to coincide with Artwalk. The Exhibition will feature Paintings, Printmaking, Sculpture, and Encaustics all completed within the last 13 months, with an underlying focus on Love, War, and Literature.
As an artist on a never-ending quest for knowledge who bravely delves in many different processes, Duncan rarely leaves stones unturned and never disappoints. So don't miss out on one of the most anticipated shows of 2016. 

Jewelry by Lois Ann Hesser

In Gallery 2 at the WMAC, join us for an exhibition of elegant handcrafted jewelry by artist Lois Ann Hesser.  Her unique designs include semi-precious stones collected from her worldwide travels.  Lois Ann is not only a fine jewelry crafter, but a poet and musician.  Her comprehensive love of the arts is evident in every one-of-a-kind handmade piece.  This shows will help inspire those seeking the perfect, elegant gift for someone special. The show opens October 20 and continues through November 12.   The opening reception will be held during Art Walk, October 20, 5-9 pm.

UPSTATE Gallery on Main  is honored to present  Heirloom-Worthy , a selection of recent installation and sculptural still life work by Chapel Hill, North Carolina multidisciplinary artist,  Stacy Bloom Rexrode . Repurposing disposable household materials such as plastic bottles and plates, Rexrode creates works that are double-edged, witty, and thought-provoking contemplations on our uncertain legacies for future generations.

REVELATIONS
An Evening of Story and Song

This October a 1 hour production called ' Revelations ' will take to the stage in 
Spartanburg South Carolina.  A phenomenal group of nine women have agreed to participate, 
each willing to enter into conversation with the hope this affects our community beyond these 
three performance.

Performers:  Dr. Meisha AdderleyKathy Dunleavy,  Robyn Hussa Farrell,  Latria Graham,  Teresa Hough,  Arialle Kennedy,  RuthLittlejohn,  Crystal Pace, 
Janice Wilkins,  with a special appearance by Converse College theatre students   
Originally conceived by P roducer Louise Fagan  as part of her ongoing interest in the stories of women,   Director Valerie Barnet  joined the project also believing that telling our stories can become catalysts for growth. 
Our experiences while personal and unique have a commonality that can be illuminated to build bridges and ultimately weave a stronger community. Representing the diversity of Spartanburg, each woman was chosen for their passionate creative, community and outreach work. Their attached bios highlight their achievements. Their artistry on the stage reveals their true hearts.

Venue: Hazel's Attic, Wilson Hall, Converse College
This unique performance space is wheelchair accessible.

Date: Friday October 21, 7:30pm
Saturday October 22, 7:30pm
Sunday October 23, 2:00pm 

Performance: 70 minutes in total, with no intermission
Followed immediately by a champagne and sweets Artist Reception.
