SPU: The Falcons struggled to escape the Marauders in the first half of the first meeting, but Seattle Pacific eventually overwhelmed U-Mary in the second half as they recorded four goals starting from the 51st minute. The Falcons eventually closed out the game 4-0 that sent U-Mary on a five-match skid that hasn't been snapped yet. Seattle Pacific is 11-1-3 on the year and have hovered in the top 10 in national rankings throughout the year as they are currently ranked ninth in the country in men's soccer. #10 Danny Olivas leads the way with five goals and two assists, followed closely by #20 Ian Adams with four goals and three assists, #21 Gabe Kellum with three goals and four assists, and #6 Mori Tsuchiya bringing up the rear with four goals and one assist. #1 Cody Lang will get the start in goal as he has started all 15 matches for the Falcons and responded with only seven goals allowed compared to 48 saves for a 0.46 goals allowed average and a .873 save percentage. As a team, the Falcons have taken 209 shots and 84 corner kicks compared to allowing 154 shots ad 51 corner kicks.
SMU: The Saints fell in the first match to U-Mary 2-0 after
Jonathan Sellars and
Christoffer Nogueira teamed up for two goals as Sellars took a free kick from Nogueira for the first goal and a corner kick for the second goal. Overall, the Saints are 3-11-1 on the year as they have defeated Western Washington University twice but have failed to find the right combination in every other match. #10 Kyle Witzel powers Saint Martin's offense as he leads the team with five goals on the year while six others have recorded just one. #1 Nick Rosato will likely get the start in goal again as she has started 12 matches this year while making an appearance in 14 total with 34 goals allowed and 74 saves for a 2.59 goals allowed average and a .685 save percentage. As a team, the Saints have been outshot 283 to 149 on the year while giving up 86 corner kicks and taking 65.
Next Week: The Marauders wrap up the regular season as they pay a visit to Billings, Mont., to take on their travel partner Montana State University Billings for the last match of the year on November 7, at 4:00 PM.
Last Week: U-Mary continued their season trend of a stout defense in the first half followed by a breakdown in the second as they were down 1-0 at halftime to Western Washington before surrendering two more goals in the second half to fall 3-0 to the Vikings. The Marauders hoped to sweep the season series against the Clan in the following game as they faced 12 shots in the first half from Simon Fraser but made six saves to keep the score nil at halftime. Unfortunately, the Clan broke through in the second half and recorded three goals starting in the 51st minute to avenge the early season loss to U-Mary and extend the losing streak out to five matches.
