A Fade To Black: PVAMU To Officially Close Blackshear Field With Celebration On Saturday

The Prairie View A&M Department of Athletics will hold a celebration of Blackshear Field immediately following the home finale football contest versus Alcorn State on Saturday, Oct. 25.

The ceremony, dubbed "Fade 2 Black", will celebrate 66 years of football at Blackshear Field as commemorative items will be available for sale in addition to fans having the opportunity to take home a piece of the field along with a fireworks show. A formal program will also take place as PVAMU President Dr. George C. Wright, Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson, and CFO Dr. Corey Bradford will speak in addition to a historical perspective from Mr. Bill Downey, a former PVAMU football standout who played during the inaugural season at Blackshear Field in 1948.

In addition to the closing of the historic stadium, the contest will also spotlight the team's 23 seniors in a pre-game ceremony along with recognizing the 2014 PVAMU Sports Hall of Fame Class at halftime.  Fans will also be treated to a pregame tailgate beginning at 10:30 a.m. along with a special marching band exhibition as the PVAMU Marching Storm will host its annual "High School Day" which features high school bands from across the state of Texas.

The contest kicks off at 1 p.m. and tickets are available at www.PVPanthers.com.  For more information, contact the PVAMU Department of Athletics at (936) 261-9100.
