Six Nations 2015: Jonathan Davies an injury worry for Wales

Centre Jonathan Davies has given Wales their first injury scare ahead of the Six Nations opener against England.

Clermont Auvergne have left 43-times-capped Davies, 26, out of Saturday's French Top 14 trip to La Rochelle because of a thigh injury.

It is Wales coach Warren Gatland's first worry ahead of the England clash on Friday, 6 February.

"Jonathan has a minor tight glute which no one wanted to risk," said a Wales spokesman.

"It's nothing serious and we have had continuous dialogue with Clermont."

England, meanwhile, have a glut of injury problems ahead of the Millennium Stadium encounter.

A Clermont Auvergne website statement said Davies "returned on Wednesday evening from Wales and was forced to declare himself unavailable".

Stuart Lancaster, the England coach, has seen fly-half Owen Farrell among five players ruled out for the duration of the tournament.

The retirement of veteran prop Adam Jones, who was omitted from Gatland's squad, has been the main debating point in Wales thus far.

Scarlets hooker Ken Owens returns from a neck injury in their LV= Cup game against London Irish in Llanelli on Sunday, boosting his chances of a Six Nations call-up.

His front-row colleague, tight-head prop Samson Lee, is also over a neck problem ahead of the Six Nations as he seeks to consolidate the role of Jones' successor.
