I hope you all had a spooky Halloween and a gut-busting Thanksgiving (at least for you American chaps and chippies). I've been holding out on you for a bit because I needed all the balls I have in the air to finally come down to earth..and bounce off my head. I never was a good juggler.

Some of you may have heard that Samhain let legendary horror editor Don D'Auria go a month ago. This was a big blow. Don is the reason so many of us have careers and why we've published with Samhain these past 5 years. The news rocked me for a bit, and also gave me a good reason to take a a wee break. It was much needed. To learn more about it, you can read my blog post. This doesn't mean it's the day the horror music died. I promise, I and many of your favorite horror scribes are busy at work and will have plenty of new books for you to devour. You can't keep a good monster down!

Anyway, there's a lot of 'hot off the presses' news for 2016, signed book winners, movies to watch during the holiday break and one last appearance for 2015 and more. So grab your monster hunting kit and let's dive in!

Have a wonderful and healthy holiday and a happy new year! -- Hunter

This was supposed to be breaking news but the pre-order page on Amazon came up quicker than expected. Coming this January, THEY RISE is a couple of firsts - my first sea monster book and my first book with Severed Press. They've been fantastic to work with and specialize in sea monster yarns, among other things. Did you grow up loving tales about the Loch Ness Monster, killer whales and mysterious creatures from the deep, dark sea? I know I did. The deadly chimaera fish in this book make Jaws look like a guppy!

Some call them ghost sharks, the oldest and strangest looking creatures in the sea.

Marine biologist Brad Whitley has studied chimaera fish all his life. He thought he knew everything about them. He was wrong. Warming ocean temperatures free legions of prehistoric chimaera fish from their methane ice suspended animation. Now, in a corner of the Bermuda Triangle, the ocean waters run red. The 400 million year old massive killing machines know no mercy, destroying everything in their path. It will take Whitley, his climatologist ex-wife and the entire US Navy to stop them in the bloodiest battle ever seen on the high seas.

You can pre-order the ebook now. If you prefer the trade paperback (like I do), that will be available to order on January 4th. The ebook is free if you have Kindle Unlimited. Happy fishing!

In what is most likely my final book with Samhain horror, I KILL IN PEACE is set for an April, 2016 release. It's a novella with a very nasty streak. Not for the faint of heart. Trust me. If you like your horror down and dirty and far from politically correct, step right up. There were scenes where I had to stop writing and question whether I should go through with them. I even consulted with my wife before submitting it to Samhain. She gave it her blessing, but then again, she's as twisted as I am.

Here's the elevator pitch...

Killing can be habit forming, especially when the texts and voices in your head give their marching orders and your victims deserve it. Peter Blades can’t stop weaving a path of destruction, unsure if he’s gone insane or become the puppet of a higher power, speeding headlong to a terrifying end while the world goes mad around him.

I KILL IN PEACE will only be available in ebook. Keep checking my BOOKS PAGE on my website for links when they go live.

Huge Cryptid Book News!

The ink is finally dry on the contract for my latest book with Pinnacle (who brought you THE MONTAUK MONSTER & TORTURES OF THE DAMNED). I'm taking on a new cryptid so I can put another notch in my crypto belt. This time, it's...wait for it...THE JERSEY DEVIL! No, not the hockey team. I'm talking the beast from Jersey's Pine Barrens.

One trip to the Barrens with my brother-in-law convinced me that anything can live there. What a strange and wonderful place. We saw recessed mansions next to abandoned mills and ramshackle houses, all nestled in some of the densest forest I've ever come across. We stopped at a bar in the middle of nowhere, and for a moment, I wondered if we'd ever be seen again. That bar left such an impression, I even wrote it into the book.

You are all the first to hear about it this monster deal. THE JERSEY DEVIL is slated to come out next fall in paperback everywhere books are sold. I can't tell you how excited I am about this one.

A family that has been haunted for generations by the beast sets out into the Pine Barrens to make things right. They're itching to run to the winged creature, not from it. But things aren't exactly what they expected. Get ready for utter mayhem!

Last Appearance for the Year

For those of you in the New York area, I'll be at the HUDSON HORROR SHOW on Saturday,December 12th, hawking my wares and talking horror with anyone who will listen. I'll have discounted copies of all my books on hand. Click here to learn more about the show. And if you've come to see me before, you know I'll probably have a cooler of beer under the table. I like to share.

After this show, I plan to hibernate until the ball drops.
