When “Monet’s Garden” hit the New York Botanical Garden in 2012, it was a hit. 373,000 visited the exhibit, but it can’t touch the Frida Kahlo exhibit. This year’s “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life” is expected to set a record and pass the half million-visitors mark, something that surprised the botanical garden’s president. “We thought Frida Kahlo would be a wonderful thing, but we never thought it would outdo Monet,” he said, according to The New York Times. We never doubted you, boo.
The exhibit opened on May 16 and will run until November 1. It’s based on Kahlo’s Casa Azul in Coyoacán, and it’s so good that it even fooled our sports editor, who has gone to the real Casa Azul a ton of times. The exhibit features her art and workspace. The museum also organized events around the iconic artist, such as a Frida lookalike contest and lectures.
