(KUTV) - Fire crews in Park City found flames shooting out a home early Wednesday morning after neighbors called 911 to report the fire.

It took around 40 minutes for the firefighters to suppress the fire, but it smoldered for the rest of morning, leaving a home under construction near 4800 Enclave Drive a complete loss.

"Very large flames coming off of the top, as well as a very large smoke column, or smoke header, we had to take defensive actions of this fire, we couldn't put people into the structure," Park City Fire District investigator Casey Voorwaller said.

Neighbor Tom Richardson said he heard the sirens and looked out the window and saw a giant column of fire.

"I saw the biggest fire I've ever seen in my life, flames probably 100 feet high," Richardson said. "It sounded like a freight train, the flames were at least 100 feet high and the ash, it was almost like a hurricane."

Richardson and his wife began packing their belongings because they feared the fire would spread to their home.

It wouldn't be necessary because fire crews were able to contain the fire to the one home.

According to county property records, the home was still being built and is valued at around $2.7 Million.

Investigators have not determined what started the fire.
