Central's Larson Earns All-America Honors in NCAA Decathlon

CANTON, N.Y. — Central College's Eric Larson picked up the conference's lone all-America honor Friday with a sixth-place finish in the decathlon at the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

Wartburg's Jacoby Firkins finished ninth in the same competition with 6,544 points. Teammate Colt Feltes (56.79m; 186-4) took 13th in the hammer throw in the only other men's event final with an IIAC competitor.

Illinois Wesleyan continues to lead the women's team race with 24 points. MIT sits second with 15 points, while Baldwin-Wallace, Cornell and North Central (Ill.) are tied for third with 12 points. Loras is tied for 18th place with five points and Wartburg is tied for 31st with one point.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire holds an 18-17 advantage over Wisconsin-La Crosse in the men's race. Wartburg is tied for 14th place with six points, while Central is tied for 21st overall with four points.


CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
In preliminary action on the track, Loras' Josh Goerdt advanced to the 400 final by finishing third in his heat with 48.07 clocking. In the 800, Wartburg's Daniel Bonthius and Buena Vista's Seth Woodson both advanced to Saturday's final, while Loras' Zach Frey did not make the cut. Bonthius (1:50.99) won his heat, while Woodson (1:51.50) took third in his. Frey (1:52.31) was third in his heat and finished 13th overall.

Central's Dan Roemerman (14.45) took third in his heat of the 110 hurdles to move into the final, while Simpson's Dylan Kalinay (14.83) took fifth in his heat and saw his championship draw to a close.


Wartburg's Taylor Moore and Kayla Kregel advanced to Saturday's women's 800 final. Moore took second in her heat in 2:11.87 to advance automatically. Kregel took third in her heat in 2:11.32 and advances to the final with the best effort of those needing to qualify based on time. Taylor Officer, the third Wartburg runner in the 800 field, finished fourth in her heat in 2:13.97 to finish 14th overall.

Loras' Elizabeth Brandenburg finished fourth in her heat of the 100 hurdles in 14.65 and took the last available spot in the final. She edged Central's Meredith Zimmerman (14.67) and Simpson's Bailey Fleshner (14.82), who finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

Central's Abigail Davis and Wartburg's Erica Dynes failed to advance out of their preliminary heats in the 100. Davis took fifth in her heat in 12.305 to finish 11th overall, while Dynes was 12th overall after finishing fourth in her heat with a 12.34 clocking.

The heptathlon competition wrapped up Friday with Luther's Leah Broderick finishing 13th with 4,444 points and teammate Anna Burke taking 18th with 4,326 points.
