Recruiting class features 3 transfers, including a JC All-American

TURLOCK — With four new Warriors being added to the roster for 2015, Mallori Gibson's first recruiting class is small in numbers — but the quartet features accomplished volleyball stars.

Three transfers — including a junior college All-American — and a true freshman has allowed Gibson, the first-year head coach at Cal State Stanislaus, to add depth for a much-improved Stanislaus squad.

Maddi Seidl, Setter, 5-8, Jr. (Castle Rock, Wash./North Idaho College)
Highlighting the incoming class is second-team junior college All-American setter Madalyn Seidl, who has transferred from North Idaho College, where she was named the female athlete of the year for a well-rounded NIC athletics program.

Seidl had a solid supporting cast, which led her to an average of 10.02 assists per set, earning her all-conference and team most valuable player honors. She led the NIC Cardinals to the second round of the NJCAA regional tournament.

"With a young team returning in the Fall, we knew it was vital to find an experienced setter who could add leadership and maturity on the court. Maddi is just that," Gibson said. "Not only is she an extremely talented setter, but also the type of player who has an unbelievable work ethic and the ability to rally the team together in any situation. She will make a huge impact right away."

In high school, Seidl was part of four District and League championship teams while helping Castle Rock High School to a state title as a senior.

Seidl will major in biology at Cal State Stanislaus with a career goal of becoming a Pharmacist.

Sierrah Miller, Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist, 5-9, Jr. (Turlock/Modesto Junior College)
Sierrah Miller will be returning home to Turlock, but she didn't go too far away after winning three conference championships in volleyball at Pitman High School.

The 2012 Central California Conference most valuable player spent two seasons at Modesto Junior College, where she was a two-time All-Big 8 Conference selection and MJC athlete of the year in 2013 as a freshman. In two seasons at MJC, Miller tallied 653 kills in 48 matches for an average of 13.6 kills per contest with a .463 hitting percentage.

"We are excited to have local standout in Sierrah joining our program. Her competitive nature combined with her eagerness to learn will be very valuable to our team," commented Gibson.  "She will provide depth to us on the outside and will instantly improve our already decent ball control."

Miller, who was also an All-league soccer goalkeeper at Pitman High School, will major in business management at CSU Stanislaus.

Clairissa Larry, Right-Side Hitter, 6-0, Sr. (University Heights, Ohio/University of Charleston)
Coming all the way across the country from West Virginia, Clairissa Larry decided to spend her final year of athletic eligibility in California by joining the Warriors.

At the University of Charleston, Larry was a second-team All-Mountain East Conference (NCAA Division II) selection with 225 kills for an average of 2.47 kills per set. She posted a .262 hitting percentage as a junior on the 9-18 Golden Eagles team. Larry was also an All-Conference honorable mention pick as a sophomore.

"Clairissa will be transferring to us with one year left of eligibility. Her experience, leadership, and confidence will undoubtedly strengthen our team right away," said Gibson. "In addition, her terminating power and physicality will complement our team's offense very well.

Originally from University Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, Larry has family in the Sacramento area. She will be pursuing a master's degree in psychology at Cal State Stanislaus.

Heilani Hoeft, Outside Hitter, 6-0, Fr. (Redwood City/Woodside High School)
Heilani Hoeft was an All-League honorable mention selection as a team captain on the Woodside High School volleyball team.

As a senior, Hoeft put-away 106 kills (.396 kill percentage) and 55 total blocks (0.7 blocks per set) with 31 solo blocks.

"Heilani is a tremendous athlete with a very high ceiling. We had the chance to work with her at our camp and knew immediately that we would offer her (a spot on the team) that very same day," praises Gibson. "She will be an extremely physical pin player who can play at a high level. Heilani has the potential to become one of the top players in the conference."

Hoeft, who will be accomplishing her lifetime dream of playing collegiate volleyball, has not decided on a major of study at CSU Stanislaus.
