(8/21/17) Petaluma, CA … The high powered 410 cubic inch open wheel sprint cars of the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series will be making their final appearance of the year at Petaluma Speedway on Saturday, August 26th, with a hotly contested championship point battle on the line.

Leading the field of 20 sprint car teams will be 16-year old championship point leader Gio Scelzi of Fresno.  Scelzi, along with Campbell’s Bud Kaeding and Cory Eliason of Selma have been locked in a title battle for the ages.  At stake is the $10,000 winner share out of the $62,000 year end point fund.  And with only four races remaining on the schedule, the pressure and intensity has been turned up several notches.

Scelzi, who took the top spot in the standings away from Kaeding at the last KWS-NARC event in Watsonville, now maintains a slim 692-687 lead over Kaeding.  Eliason trails by only 11 points.  Hanford’s DJ Netto is only 24 back.  Considering that a total of 45 points can be earned in any event, anything is possible.

Complicating matters for the frontrunners is the fact there are several teams that are enjoying playing the “spoiler” role.  Proof is the fact that this is one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory with nine different drivers enjoying the spoils of victory lane.  Three of those, including Scelzi, captured their first ever KWS-NARC victory in 2017.  The other two are a pair of local Penngrove CA drivers.  Those honors go to Chase Johnson, who captured the last KWS-NARC event at Petaluma and 15-year old Buddy Kofoid who claimed the Watsonville race.

Also expected to compete at Petaluma is Bobby McMahan of Elk Grove; Discovery Bay’s Jarrett Soares; Sean Watts and Nathan Rolfe of Atwater; Jason Statler of Grass Valley; and Roseville’s Sean Becker.

The racing program includes qualifying, three 10-lap heat races, the six-lap Hoosier Tire Dash; followed by the 30-lap high stakes Fujitsu Sprint Car Series headliner.  The winner takes home a $3000 paycheck.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m.  Front gates open at 4:00 p.m.  Also on the racing card is the Western Region Dwarf Nationals, and 600’s.
