58 photos of Lake Michigan's breathtaking beaches from above

HOLLAND, MI -- In Michigan, it's said you're never more than 85 miles from one of the region's Great Lakes.

And that's a good thing during some of the hottest days of the year.

Thousands of people took to the West Michigan shoreline this weekend, crowding area beaches and filling parking lots to capacity. At Holland State Park, the lot was full to the brink -- "beach parking full," an entrance sign read.

Lake Michigan water temperatures are hovering in the low 70s, according to the latest weather service report. That's sure to provide some relief from air temperatures in the upper 80s.

Factor in a relatively high dew point, and it feels downright uncomfortable. Grand Rapids' "feels like" reading approached the mid 90s Sunday.

From a bird's-eye view, beachgoers found plenty of ways to stay cool: by boat, a stroll along the pier or a splash in the water.

Another pleasant beach day is forecast for Monday. So, too, is an isolated thunderstorm.
