Chef/partner Kyle Schutte departs from The Flats in Beverly Hills as of this coming weekend. The journeyman helped to bring the project to life after some three years of back and forth, but now moves on to other opportunities.

The restaurant first announced Schutte as one of the names behind The Flats way back in 2014, following the shutter of previous on-site Jordan Kahn restaurant Red Medicine. In the intervening years Kahn managed to move on to Destroyer and ultimately Vespertine, while Schutte and company languished inside the building, fighting off delays and subway construction outside the front door along Wilshire Blvd.

The Flats did come to life in April and ultimately found a home as a kind of late night dining sanctuary for the Beverly Hills crowd. Now Schutte decamps as part of a mutual decision with his partners, telling Eater that he wishes nothing but the best for the project, and that Saturday will be his last day. The restaurant will continue on in its current incarnation, at least for now, and the next steps for Schutte himself remain unknown.
