NYS Fair food truck contest: See all $3 menu items from 40 vendors

Geddes, N.Y. - The Taste NY Food Truck Competition at the 2017 New York State Fair has more than doubled in size.

Last year, 17 trucks competed. This year, 40 are coming for the two-day competition on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3, the last weekend of the fair.

Each day during the competition, 20 trucks will ring Chevy Court from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The chefs must use products made or grown in New York to qualify for the competition.

The food truck chefs will offer $3 samples of the dish they've entered into the competition. Fair visitors can vote on their favorites each day for the People's Choice awards.

Last year, more than 2,500 fairgoers voted in the contest. The Meatball Truck's Meatball Cup won the People's Choice award and The Silo Truck's Telekinetic Fried Chicken won the Judges' Choice award.

There will also be a judges' panel each day. The judges are: Andrew Donovan of NewsChannel 9; Thomas Kiernan, executive chef for the Marriott Syracuse Downtown; Chance Bear, executive chef for the Lincklaen House; Margaret McCormick, food writer for the Syracuse New Times; and representatives from the New York Beef Council and Aldi.

Also this year, the New York Beef Council will recognize one of the 40 competing trucks for "Best Use of Beef Products."
