You might associate the South with languorous sessions drinking iced tea on a screened-in porch. But it turns out that Southerners are more likely to knock out an early morning workout than Americans from any other region.

Data from fitness class booking app ClassPass shows that 6 a.m. is the most popular time of day to work out in the seven cities it serves in the Southeast. In contrast, users from other regions get their sweat on in the evening between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m.

These sculpted Southerners are the most likely to benefit from increased productivity and happiness at work. Office workers’ performance improves the most if they exercise before or during the work day, according to research from the University of Bristol, Great Britain.

Barre is the South’s most popular workout class when compared to the greater ClassPass user base. The ballet-based workout comprised of tiny, agonizing movements is the class of choice in Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando and Raleigh. Yoga rules in Tampa, while denizens of Nashville opt for strength training, a flexible ClassPass category that includes high-intensity interval training.
