The concept of a lake of fire predates orthodox Christianity by more than 1,250 years. The concept of a lake of fire appears in the ancient 'Egyptian Book of the Dead'. In approximately 300B.C., some Hellenized Jews living in Egypt embraced the concept and passed it on to the Early Christians.

Revelation 20:14-15, "...Then Death and Hades* were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire". [NKJV]

II Corinthians 5:17 "...Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18) Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19) namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation."
The work of Yeshua Messiah (Jesus the Christ) on the cross of Calvary did much more than provide forgiveness of sin. It fact, our Lord's substitutionary work provided far more than justification.
This message emphasizes the fact that; through the resurrection of our Lord we have become an entirely new kind of species; a Divine species. The King James translation of the text reads, we become a "new creation" in Christ.
What does all of this means to you? It means that you are no longer a deprived sinner or a low down dirty scoundrel. Instead, you are what according Rabbi Shaul (Saint Paul) declared in the referenced passage of scripture - - we are a new kind of species.
Things of the past such as the Adamic-carnal nature, the curse of sin and death, guilt, shame and bondage to sins are all in the past. That garbage was taken to the cross, crucified there and buried.
In Messiah all things are now brand new. Saint Paul finishes his discourse in II Corinthians chapter five telling us that God has given us the word of reconciliation. This beloved friend, is truly, the good news!
