Among the indictments by a Taylor County grand jury announced Thursday are a man charged with sexually assaulting a child and another man suspected of fatally shooting a dog.

David Lee Longman, 22, was indicted on one count of sexual assault of a child in connection with an Aug. 21 incident involving a girl younger than 17.

Longman communicated online with the girl, according to court documents, before meeting her in person. Court documents said "these electronic communications contained descriptions and other sexual communications."

After the girl reported the incident, according to court documents, Longman confessed to having both oral sex and intercourse with the girl when questioned by police.

Longman

Longman originally was held in the Taylor County Jail on $15,000 bond, according to jail records, and is also facing a charge of online solicitation of a minor, which comes with an additional $15,000 bond.

Also indicted Thursday was Stephen Chapman, 54, accused of cruelty to animals in connection with a July 3, 2015, incident in which he allegedly shot and killed a dog with a shotgun. The dog's owner told police that he observed the shooting, according to court documents.

Chapman

Chapman reportedly told police that the dog had been defecating and urinating on his property and digging around trees.

"(The dog owner) has been told about this, he chooses not to stop his roaming animals" Chapman told police, according to the documents. "And I have every right to defend myself against attack."

Police said Chapman did not have permission to shoot the animal, according to court documents.

Chapman originally was being held at the Taylor County Jail on $2,500 bond, according to jail records.
