The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced it would conduct an OVI checkpoint somewhere in Hamilton County Friday evening.

The checkpoint will on Red Bank Road in Fairfax near the intersection of Woodland Road, officials announced Friday. It will operate from 10 p.m. to midnight.

The checkpoint is paid for with federal grant funds.

Lt. Matthew Hamilton, commander of the Cincinnati metro post of the highway patrol, said 340 people were killed and another 5,060 were injured in OVI-related crashes in Ohio last year.

“State Troopers made 25,226 OVI arrests in 2016 in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers," Hamilton said. "OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from our roadways.”
