I really enjoyed this book, I loved Jesse and Summer. I loved getting to know them. My heart broke a few times for them both. Jesse has not had an easy life and has had to over come alot. Summer has lost family and there is one place that she is happy but she is avoiding it because of her feelings for someone. There was a part in the book that had me in tears.

I loved getting to know Summer and Jesse. They are both great characters and you do get to know them really well over time.
I didn't connect with the characters at all and never got emotionally involved.

Kiss of Summer by Alyson Raynes
Summer & Jesse
EMOTIONAL YET VERY SWEET
4.5 Stars

So, when I started reading this, I though for sure this has got to be a YA book and even though I was told it’s not, I still feel it could fall in to that category for sure. It’s a fairly clean book, yet actually incredibly emotional. Lots of strong feels!

Summer is in the prime of her teenage years. Just about ready to graduate from High School and looking to change her direction in life, she visits her Grandfather every summer on his ranch that takes in wayward kids. On a trip with her girlfriends Summer meets back up with Jesse (a ranch hand who is one of the wayward kids) and sparks seem to start flying, but are quickly extinguished when Summer receives some troubling news. Shipped back home immediately, she doesn’t see Jesse or Grandpa Carl for a long while.

Jesse is a young man who came from a terrible life. As a child he witnessed more heartache and violence than anyone should have to in any life. He made some bad choices in order to survive, but those bad choices brought him to Carl and his ranch. I have not doubt that Jesse was in love with Summer from the very beginning, but believed himself not good enough for Carl’s granddaughter.

The supporting character cast is pretty good… Grandpa Carl is my fave by far. He’s never condescending to anyone. He always sees the good in everyone. And he’s living a life I think a lot of us would kill for. Summer’s friends are pretty damn funny too. That Angie with the crazy hair and foul mouth made me crack a smile a time or two.

So, this is a very lovable, very touching read. The characters were good, the writing style splendid, and the pacing excellent. The tension leading up to the climax was first rate and the dialogue flowed nicely.

Kiss of Summer might be a YA story but it is a story with many lessons to learn. Alyson Raynes is the best story teller I know. She brings reality to her story so you walk away feeling you've made a new friend in her characters. There will never be a story of Alyson Raynes I won't read.
